Nature Reserve “Micio Conti”
The nature reserve “Micio Monti” was founded in 1998 to preserve the complex of caves located in the area of Catania. The most important caves are: Micio Conti, Cantarella, Tedeschi, Immacolatella I, II,III e IV, Cava del Fico. The protected area includes oaks and a wide mediterranean vegetation.
In terms of fauna, the caves host some bat colonies like the Miniopterus and Myotis. This reserve represents a source of ancient traditions and finds like the old country houses and the Guardiola Cantarella, an old spanish tower which overlooked the reserve.
