Alcantara River Park

Alcantara river has its source on the south side of Monti Nebrodi and its mouth in the Ionian Sea at Capo Schiso in Giardini-Naxos and it is 52 kilometres (32 mi) long. It is the natural habitat of many different species of migrant birds and it is characterized by a huge variety of plants and vegetation.

For those who love trekking it is possible to find many different itinerary options (http://www.parcoalcantara.it/Eitinerari.php).

The park is free entry but the famous gorges, in italian “gole”, are not, so it is required to buy a ticket. The Alcantara gorges are vulcanic canyons, 50 mt high, in which the river Alcantara flows. They are 400 meters long but for security issues,, it is possible to visit just 200 meters.
