Piazza Mazzini
Piazza Mazzini was designed and built after the earthquake of 1693 thanks to the duke of Camastra. The square is located at the crossroads of the two streets, Via Garibaldi e Via Della Lettera, incorniciata da quattro edifici che mostrano delle terrazze fantastiche.
It was supposed to be the location of an open air market and that is why it is designed to ease the positioning of many stands.
The buildings in front of the square are characterised by eight marble columns taken from an ancient latin cathedral.
After XIXth century, the open air market was moved to Piazza Stesicoro and Piazza Alonzo di Benedetto, where today you can find the famous fish market called “La Pescheria“.
