Duomo di Catania

Piazza Duomo is the main square of Catania and the heartbeat of the historic center.

Reconstructed in 1700, after a terrible earthquake in 1693, this square was designed by Giovanni Battista Vaccarini, one of the most important architects of sicilian history. Here you can admire some of the most significant examples of sicilian baroque works of art such as the Cathedral of Saint Agatha, the Amenano fountain, the city hall and the fountain of the elephant with its iconic obelisk which is the symbol of the city.

Today Duomo square is considered the main meeting point of the city and the heartbeat of night life thanks to many pubs, restaurants and pizzerias located near it.
