Basilica della Collegiata
This basilica is considered one of the most fascinating buildings of the sicilian baroque in Catania and it was completely destroyed by the eruption of Etna in 1669.
After that, an influential architect of that time whose name is Angelo Italia re-designed the church changing the orientation of the building, in order to address the facade to via Etnea.
Thanks to the collaboration of Stefano Ittar, author of the facade, the basilica became more and more famous for being one of the best example of sicilian baroque in the city. The name comes from the college connected to the church since 1446.
