Diocesan Museum
The Diocesan Museum of Catania is located next to the Cathedral of St. Agatha and preserves a collection of liturgical accessories and furniture of the diocese of Catania.
The collection of the museum dates from several historical periods, in particular the exhibition is divided into two sections: the first one, located in the second floor and inside the chapel, exhibits a collection of items that can be dated around the 17th century and it is mainly dedicated to Saint Agatha, the second one exhibits furniture and relics donated to the museum from other dioceses and it is located in the third and fourth floors of the building.
Among the most important pieces of the collection there are: the sword of King Ludwig II of Aragon and the famous “fercolo” which during the celebration of St. Agatha is used to carry the saint’s image around the city.
